How to Market a Small Business in a Small Town

If you own a local business that isn't very large, then you most likely rely on having regular customers. Customers can be the life or death of your business and it is important to keep customers coming. That's why if you want to advertise your business, avoid commercials on TV, avoid radio ads (unless the radio is very local) and avoid using telemarketers. It is better to make small high quality ads than mass producing flyers or even go bigger scale and go for roadside advertising. In my experience, it is usually good to go outside of the box, for example if your company has a anniversary coming up, go ahead and have a barbecue (make sure all the food is cheap) and invite all the locals. Make donations to the town to make things like park benches or to plant trees, try to hold all kinds of events. If your company sells food, make sure that regular customers can order what they want, even if its off the menu. Treat your customers like friends, and they will keep coming back. Instruct employees to have casual conversations with the customers if the opportunity arises. Get involved with local events and happenings. Local soccer tournament? Sponsor it. This is how you succeed as a small business.
