Stone Restoration is a Way to Preserve History

History is all around us, if only we bother to look for it. The buildings give so many clues as to the history of our local area. A church graveyard can tell you who lived in your village one hundred years ago, and even their occupations too! This is why I feel jobs such as stone restoration are vital to a community. A community does not suddenly appear out of thin air. It was put there by its ancestors. Sure, there are plenty of people who are "new" to the area, but you will always find families in villages whose family tree have firm roots in the nearby area. Knowing the history of an area gives you that extra sense of respect - all the struggles of the past, and also the things previous generations did to make OUR lives easier too. They toiled in the fields and built many of the buildings we live in today.
