Professional Development

Mini-Clip Video Library

For visual learners, seeing equals learning. For others, it reinforces what is being learned. And in this regard, adults and teens are the same. In the area of professional development for teachers, visual tools can become the most efficient way to absorb and retain information. This is why Glencoe's Professional Mini-Clip Video Library can be an invaluable tool.

The easy-to-access library is intended specifically for today's FACS teachers. Recently updated NASAFACS standards (see Rigor, Relevance, & Relationships: The Changing Face of FACS Standards for details) are compelling them to become models of versatility, able to correlate their specific FACS subjects with academics and integrate these correlations into lesson plans. In response to this raising of the academic bar, Glencoe began correlating all of its FACS programs to the specific academic standards that must be met. These correlations are listed in their entirety and by chapter in the pages of new texts Applying Life Skills, Discovering Life Skills, The Developing Child, Food for Today, Food, Nutrition and Wellness, Families Today, and Culinary Essentials. The Mini-Clip Video Library takes that support to a new level.

The free mini-clips are organized and described throughout the Teacher Editions of the Glencoe FACS books. Starting in April, to actually view the clips, a teacher will need only visit the Glencoe Online Learning Center at www.glencoe.com and go to his or her specific program. There, users will have the option to select a by-chapter listing of the mini-clip links, which will click through directly to the videos.

A demonstration of how to teach ratios helps FACS teachers incorporate a key Mathematics/Financial Literacy principle into their own lesson plans.

The Glencoe Professional Mini-Clip Video Library is free and accessible to all teachers using the programs, making it a true library that can serve as a continual resource. In the changing world of FACS, such resources are becoming no less than a necessity to all teachers, visual learners or not.
